Kathryn Muyaba
I have over 10 years of experience working in mental health and 7 years of experience as a nurse. I am currently completing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology and am a pre-licensed counselling professional. I am a BCACC Student Member and carry professional liability insurance.
I work with people of all ages who may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of what comes next. Clients may be navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, grief, relationship concerns, identity, or major life changes. I also work with clients who are experiencing thoughts of not wanting to be here, questioning whether life is worth living, or struggling to find a way forward.
My experience has given me the opportunity to work alongside people from many different cultural, social, and life backgrounds. I believe that each person brings their own story, strengths, relationships, experiences, and ways of making sense of the world. I do not believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to counselling. Your experience will be collaborative and tailored to you.
My approach is person-centred, trauma-informed, relational, and strengths-based. I draw from Motivational Interviewing, attachment and family systems, narrative approaches, and mindfulness-based practices. Together, we can slow things down, make sense of what you are experiencing, identify what matters to you, and explore practical ways forward.
A little about me
Outside of counselling, I am a mom, and much of my life has been shaped by family, parenting, travel, and learning from different people and cultures. I love being outdoors and can usually be found hiking, exploring somewhere new, or spending time in nature. I also enjoy art and the simple, everyday things that help life feel grounded and meaningful.
I bring those parts of myself into my work in a way that feels genuine. I believe that healing is not just about managing symptoms. It is also about reconnecting with yourself, finding meaning, building relationships, and creating a life that feels like your own.
